One of my favorite days in Phuket was spent exploring Old Phuket Town. It’s a small part of Phuket City featuring rows of historic buildings dotted with modern shops and cafes. The laid back vibe, street musicians and colorful Sino-Portuguese architecture made me feel like I was in New Orleans.

SOI ROMMANEE: EXPLORE

First, we strolled down the colorful alleyway, Soi Rommanee which is just off the main street, Thalang Road. I got a bit snap-happy, and took photos of just about every house and shop along the way.

BOOKHEMIAN: COFFEE / TEA / BOOKS

This cool little cafe and bookshop on Thalang Road was bustling with coffee enthusiasts and Instagrammers.

I’m not usually a coffee drinker, but the first item on the menu, “Bookhemian Iced Coffee: Iced Coffee with Toasted Marshmallow” sounded way too good to pass up. . . and it was heavenly. Tom had a pot of English Breakfast tea and we split a croissant served with a side of honey. Delicious.

There are displays of vintage cameras and typewriters toward the back of the cafe. And, our table was filled with keys from old printing press machines (look closely at the photo above). How cool is that?!

If you visit, be sure to check out the the small art gallery on the second floor.

CHINA INN CAFE: LUNCH

Several people recommended China Inn Cafe on Thalang Road for lunch. Contrary to the name, they serve mostly authentic Thai Food and fresh juices. I recommend the green and Massaman curries. We sat in the front section of the restaurant, then discovered a beautiful, shaded garden with tables in the back, along with displays of artifacts and clothing from different parts of Asia. Be sure to sit there if you go!

CRAFTs & Co.: DRINKS / BAR FOOD

We found CRAFTs & Co. as they were opening for the evening. It’s a really cool hipstery bar with a huge selection of local and international craft beers. I went for the La Chouffe, mainly because of the adorable gnome on the tap. It has a fun vibe, the staff is friendly and they play awesome music, so plan to stay for a few drinks!
